How quickly a year has gone by After the person so close peacefully dies With St Luke's Hospice at the helm and steering the way It has given me the strength to talk to you today! Lets dispell some of the myths about hospice care Mum enjoyed outpatient physio and aromatherapy in years gone by And emotional support for me when I really just wanted to cry Mums 11 month journey of palliative care was bespoke and at home Her wishes were followed & as a family we never felt alone There were clinical and community home teams & a 24hr help-line with a real person in-between Emergency support when we needed it most Without St Luke's I would have given up the ghost Pamela's legacy has so much to teach Lets all be aware of what's in our reach Feeling supported and being prepared let Pamela know that I really cared I was her best friend until the very end! This message I know she would want me to share So who do you know who is struggling today? St Luke's may have an answer when the options one by one slip away It's a long journey for anybody alone Why not follow in our footsteps and make St Luke's your 2nd home Thank you

Mrs Smith (still can't bring myself to use her first name out of respect and I turned 54 today!) Was my 3rd year junior teacher! I had a horrible experience the year before and had become withdrawn and what we now know was the first trigger/manifestation of bipolar. To this day I give thanks for Mrs Smith as did my Dad and my Mum does now!! The gratitude we have for the kindness, care and yes love she showed to me made me a functioning child who went on to flourish at senior school, hide the bipolar for decades and have a long career ! To her family: I know you appreciated "Pam" , who couldn't!! However I know from experience when my Dad passed it was wonderful to know how loved he was.....I wanted to let you know just how very special Mrs Smith was to me and how very sad I am to hear she has passed away....I will always remember I am the person I am today thanks to her .. thinking of you xxx
